How does Saina score products?
Two methods, one scale from A to F. For a beauty product, every ingredient on the label is graded on its risk tier: the worst ingredient sets the ceiling, where it sits in the list weights the penalty, and a rinse-off product is judged more gently than one you leave on. For food and drink, the nutrition is judged per 100 g or 100 ml, additives are rated on the strength of the evidence against them, and a single high-risk additive caps the score. Our How we score page sets out both in full.
Is the food score Nutri-Score?
No. The nutrition part of the score uses the published 2023 Nutri-Score method, and then Saina adds a rating for the additives in the product and caps the result when a high-risk one is present. The number you see is Saina's own score, not a Nutri-Score.
Does Saina certify halal?
No. We show halal-relevant facts from the pack and from what is known about an additive's source — for example that E471 can be made from plants or from animal fat. Those are facts for you to weigh; we do not certify products and we do not issue rulings.
Can I trust it for my allergy?
Treat it as a reading aid, never a guarantee. Saina shows the allergens a pack declares and its "may contain" statements as printed, which can never prove an allergen is absent — recipes and production lines change. Always read the pack itself, and speak to a doctor or allergist. Saina is not medical or dietary advice.
Which products are covered?
Beauty products and food and drink from GCC shelves, in English and Arabic. The catalogue grows with every scan and every community submission, and Saina is still pre-launch — if a product isn't there yet, scanning it is what puts it on the list.
Where does the data come from?
From the labels themselves, from the open databases Open Beauty Facts and Open Food Facts (published under the ODbL), and from community submissions our team reviews. The scores are always Saina's own.
Is Saina actually independent?
Yes — genuinely. Saina doesn't take money from brands or manufacturers in any form. No one can pay for a better score, a placement in the app, or to have a product pulled from the database. The plan is to fund the project entirely through user subscriptions, so the only people we answer to are the ones using the app.
